Hello! I can imagine that your journey to get here was coupled with mixed emotions. At times this process can be exciting yet overwhelming. Thank you for welcoming me onto your path towards self-improvement and change. My name is Akeera and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, and Certified Poetry therapist. I have a profound passion for genuine human connection and strive to ensure that my practice remains authentic, compassionate, and empathetic. I offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space as I work with diverse populations ranging in gender identities, sexuality, cultural upbringings, and physical abilities. I value individual experiences and strengths- for we all have a story filled with challenges and resilience.
I utilize an eclectic approach of therapeutic modalities and theories- tailoring my interventions to meet the individual’s needs and experience. I have helped clients navigate stress, difficulty times, and life transitions. I have also supported clients through their recovery from trauma, substance use, and severe psychiatric diagnoses. I have a decade of experience working in group homes, homeless shelters, a community mental health agency, a substance abuse agency, and a college counseling center. I have worked with ages spanning across childhood through older adults. I also have experience training staff, clinicians, and graduate students on issues pertaining to mental health and experiences related to cultural identities. When I am not working in a clinical setting, I can often be found advocating for social and environmental justice. I look forward to working with you- together we can help you meet your individual goals and foster a sense of empowerment.
